Who we are
Belfast Eats ("we", "us", "our") runs the food directory at www.belfasteats.co.uk. We are the data controller for the personal data described in this policy. We follow the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the Data Protection Act 2018 and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR).

What we collect
If you visit the site
- Technical data such as IP address, browser type, device type and pages viewed, collected by our hosting provider's server logs.
- Analytics and marketing cookie data, only if you give consent in our cookie banner. See our cookie policy.
If you contact us or subscribe
- Your name, email address and anything you write in your message.
- Your email address if you sign up to The Friday Plate newsletter.
If you own or manage a listed business
- Your name, business name, role, email address, phone number and business postcode.
- Verification records showing how and when we confirmed you run the business.
- Whether you've asked to hear about online ordering with Bizzy Apps Pro.
Business details shown on a public listing (business name, address, opening hours, menu, photos, business phone number) are business information. Where they identify a sole trader, we treat them as personal data too.
How we use it
- To create, verify, publish and update business listings.
- To reply to messages and support requests.
- To send the newsletter you signed up for. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
- To pass your details to Bizzy Apps Pro, only when you've asked to hear about online ordering.
- To keep the site secure, prevent fake listings and fix technical problems.
- To understand how the site is used, only where you've accepted analytics cookies.

Who we share it with
We do not sell personal data. We share it only with:
- Bizzy Apps Pro, when you ask to hear about online ordering. Once you sign up with them, their own privacy policy applies to your ordering account.
- Service providers who host the website, send email and run analytics for us, under written contracts that require them to protect your data.
- Professional advisers and authorities, where the law requires it or to protect our legal rights.
How long we keep it
- Enquiries: up to 24 months after our last message to you.
- Listing and owner records: for as long as the listing is live, plus 24 months.
- Newsletter: until you unsubscribe.
- Server logs: up to 90 days.
- Cookie consent record: 12 months, after which we ask again.
Your rights
You have the right to:
- ask for a copy of your personal data (right of access);
- have inaccurate data corrected;
- have your data deleted in certain circumstances;
- restrict or object to how we use it, including for direct marketing;
- receive your data in a portable format;
- withdraw consent at any time, without affecting what we did before you withdrew it.
Email us to use any of these rights. We'll reply within one month. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We'd appreciate the chance to put things right first.
Security & transfers
We use encrypted connections (HTTPS), access controls and reputable providers to protect your data. Some of our providers may process data outside the UK. When that happens we rely on UK adequacy regulations or the International Data Transfer Agreement to keep it protected to UK standards.
This site is not aimed at children under 13 and we don't knowingly collect their data.
Changes & contact
We'll update this policy when our practices change, and show the new date at the top. For significant changes affecting listed owners, we'll email you.
